DK Rides Himself?[edit | edit source]

Dkc-dk-rides-dk.png

Description[edit | edit source]

In “Jungle Hijinx,” get Rambi and then return to the start of the level. Position Rambi a few spaces from the cliff at the very beginning and then hop up the trees and fall down the banana arrow to reveal the metal barrel.

Pick it up and carry it just past Rambi. Throw it at the left wall so that it bounces back and then jump on it while holding Y. As you pass Rambi, press B. You will get on Rambi and he will smash away the barrel.

Suddenly, Rambi’s sprite will turn into DK’s, except with the same gray palette.

“Feel like I’m walking on air…”[edit | edit source]

Dkc-jump-on-air.png

Description[edit | edit source]

I’m not sure if this works for every hole, but after the midpoint in “Oil Can Alley,” lead one of the hopping Kremlings to the left and into the hole just before the barrel cannon. If one falls in you will notice it will continue jumping around.

This may lead you to believe there’s ground down there, but try jumping in yourself—you’ll die. Either that Kremling magically developed floating powers or that’s some biased bottomless hole.

Flying in Mine Cart Carnage[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

If you die after hitting the midway point in "Mine Cart Carnage," you can fly through the level just after returning through said midway barrel by rapidly pressing B and Y just as you break out.

“Ice Age Alley” Background Glitch[edit | edit source]

Dkc-bg-glitch.png

Description[edit | edit source]

In “Ice Age Alley” you can somehow make the background become glitchy. Enter the first bonus barrel—after the row of three Neckies—and make sure you jump on the Espresso inside before leaving. You’ll need it to be able to jump over the cliff to the left of the bonus area.

Do so and go all the way back to the start of the level. Now, go forward and eventually you’ll notice the background become glitchy: Not only does the snow completely disappear, but the sky mostly fills with pink, save a few blocky edges of the mountain, which remain light blue.

Lives Counter Glitch[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

Do the “Strange Kong Separation” glitch on the barrel cannon at the beginning of “Mine Cart Carnage” and, as Diddy is being show forward, quickly drop down into the warp barrel. This’ll cause you to lose a life due to Diddy overshooting the cart and falling into a pit, but you’ll warp before the game has a chance to take you back to the map, allowing you to continue after losing a life.

Do this with zero lives and the life counter will disappear, but without giving you the game over screen. Now the counter will stay that way and the game will think you have negative lives (if you die normally, you will still get a game over). Continue doing this trick to make the number of lives to go down even further.

Gaining lives will, of course, raise your lives counter and eventually bring it back up to zero and then normality.

Rapidly Max-Out Lives[edit | edit source]

Dkc-max-out-lives.png

Description[edit | edit source]

In “Manic Mincers,” go forward from the midway barrel until you reach the hole with the Krusha pacing back and forth. Stand on the rightward cliff, wait for the Krusha to move toward it, and then fall down on the Krusha’s head while holding right. You should repeatedly bounce off his head and the wall, causing you to bump him rapidly, which will lead to rapid one-up gains.

Replace Animal Buddy with Rambi[edit | edit source]

Dkc-rambi-other-levels.png

Description[edit | edit source]

In any level with an animal buddy in a bonus room that can be entered multiple times (‘Bouncy Bonanza,’ for example) grab the animal buddy in the bonus, leave, re-enter the bonus with the animal buddy, jump off the original buddy and onto the new one, and then leave. You will now be on Rambi, no matter who you were on before.

Versions[edit | edit source]

Strange Kong Separation[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

One can create an odd situation in which Donkey and Diddy both commit the same action at the same time and can move away from each other, rather than one simply following the selected character.

To do this, find a barrel cannon on the ground with both Kongs (One can easily find one at the beginning of “Mine Cart Carnage”). Stand right next to it as Donkey Kong so that Diddy is in the barrel, but without triggering it.

Now, start rapidly pressing SELECT so that you switch Kongs and then switch Kongs again in that middle of that. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work right the first try; it may take a few attempts.

When it does work, Donkey Kong will hesitate while Diddy is shot forward. Eventually, DK will be sent next and both will be controllable.

A few notes: Diddy is invincible and can move through solid objects, but if either fall in a hole, you die. Because Diddy moves faster than DK, he’ll often go too far from DK and off the screen; to decrease their distance, hold down and make DK do his ground slam with B while holding down and backward diagonally so that Diddy cartwheels backward while DK stands still.

Also, if you do this in “Mine Cart Carnage,” Diddy will be sent past the mine cart and die (this can be exploited to cause another glitch—see “Lives Counter Glitch” for more info). To get a better representation of this glitch, try the barrel cannon just before the midway barrel in “Oil Can Alley” (one can cause another glitch in this level—see “Take Rambi into Other Levels” for the details.

Take Rambi into Other Levels[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

Do the “Strange Kong Separation” glitch in “Oil Can Alley” and then keep going forward without getting hit, dying, or switching Kongs till you reach the hole where Rambi's crate is. Let DK fall into the hole and ride Rambi, but keep Diddy off Rambi. Then just make Diddy fall off a ledge while keeping DK, still on Rambi, alive. You will lose a life and be sent back to the map screen. When you go into another level with any animal buddy in it, you will be riding Rambi.

Walk Through Walls in “Slipslide Ride”[edit | edit source]

Dkc-through-walls.png

Description[edit | edit source]

In “Slipslide Ride,” enter the last bonus (at the top of the second of the three upward-sliding ropes just after the blast barrel next to the Gnawty past the midway point). When you leave, go back to where the bonus was to find its barrel now gone. From here you can jump either left or right to land inside the stone walls.

Going on the right side will only allow you to scroll the screen a little and allow you to pass the screen only a little. Going left will give you much more stone to move through and allow you to see chunks missing near the top.

Warp from “Kongo Jungle” to “Orangu-tan Gang”[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

Just after beating “Jungle Hijinx” for the first time and as your character moves down the path to “Ropey Rampage” (this is easier with only one character), if you rapidly press B you may be warped to “Orangu-tan Gang.”

Warp from World 1 to World 3[edit | edit source]

Description[edit | edit source]

As you pass through the transition point between "Reptile Rumble" and "Coral Capers" on the map of the first world map, mash on every button and you may spontaneously burst out a barrel in the middle of a middle level of world three.

This is easier done as a single character or in Funky's airplane.
